Our sisters in the WNBA followed the brothers of the NBA in standing up and using their platform to support black lives matter. The WNBA has fined the Fever, Liberty and Mercury teams and players for wearing black lives matter shirts and black warm-ups. In the video below our sister describes what black lives matter means “it doesn’t mean others don’t” and she also goes into saying it’s not a movement against the police. They are standing up because of the police brutality going on in our communities.
Carmelo Anthony who walked with the people in Baltimore’s protest last year didn’t agree with the actions of the WNBA, “I don’t see no reason to fine them. If anything you should want to support them,” he told ESPN.
Carmelo along with Chris Paul, Lebron James and D wade addressed the Black Lives Matter movement and police brutality during the ESPY’s.
“We cannot ignore the realities of the current state of America,” said Anthony. “The events of the past week have put a spotlight on injustice, distrust and anger that plague so many of us. The system is broken.”
“The racial profiling has to stop,” chimed in Wade. “The shoot to kill mentality has to stop. Not seeing the value of black and brown bodies has to stop. But also the retaliation has to stop. The endless gun violence in places like Chicago, Dallas, not to mention Orlando—it has to stop. Enough. Enough is enough.”
