I guess it’s safe to say that Donald Trump saw a Fox & Friends report about how star Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry wants to not go to the White House if the team is invited there to celebrate their recent championship. Donald’s feelings must have been hurt. This morning, he proceeded to do what he does best… Tweet.
Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team.Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!
Lets analyze this tweet. I can point out two clearly false statements. One, Curry isn’t hesitating; he told ESPN yesterday that he doesn’t want to go to the White House and will vote not to do so if the team is asked. Second, according to Warriors coach Steve Kerr, The White House hasn’t even extended an official invitation. I’m sure the invitation delay is due to The White House not wanting to be humiliated when half of the team doesn’t show up!
Now, Trump’s tweet follows an attack on NFL players who take a knee during the National Anthem. Our good ol’ President called them a “son of a b***h” and rants about how they should be “fired”.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell released a statement this morning in response to Trump’s rant.
“The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture,” Goodell said. “There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we’ve experienced over the last month. Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities.”
This also follows on the White House calling for the firing of ESPN’s Jemele Hill, who described Trump as a white supremacist. I mean, was her description false? What should we think about a President who who continually publicly attacks outspoken black people in an attempt to whip up his largely white constituency? His true description isn’t a mystery.
